Bracken House is offering various new programmes to include:
Positive stew (once a month)
A ‘Talking Lunch’ where we invite Beacon members, local organisations and the wider community to talk on the subject on mental health.
The main purpose of the positive stew is to facilitate events where Beacon members are given the opportunity to be the experts and voice their ideas, concerns and experiences to each other and people in influential positions. The goal is that this will help battle prejudice and stigma around mental health and that these issues are put to the core of the community; create awareness around NIAMH and Beacon in East Belfast.
Positive Steps (12 week programme)
Positive Steps is a flexible and interactive mental health promotion that is essentially a mental health promotion programme that brings many other benefits in addition to improving our mental health and emotional well-being.
The programme provides many exciting opportunities for people to experience, for example trying something new and learning new skills; taking risks; making new connections and relationships; socialising; being creative; learning relaxation techniques; figuring out how to value yourself and how to contribute in valuable ways; improving health; knowing when and how to get help; learning all this in a fun way.
It is a 10-step programme that encourages people to look at life, to discover what influences their health and provides a practical opportunity to enhance mental health and emotional well-being.
Life Skills (weekly programme)
Life skills is a weekly programme based on developing daily living skills for individuals to include Practical skills - home management, Health skills – nutrition/hygiene, Social and emotional skills – anger management/coping skills, Civic skills – volunteering/employability. We aim to develop skills amongst individuals to prepare for community living and personal development.
